JPN : Hitachi, Ltd. is currently manufacturing the “400 Series Train” to be used as a transportation measure for the “Osaka-Kansai Expo,” which will be held in Osaka, Japan, in 2025.
This train will combine a bold and innovative exterior with the latest modern facilities, and it is scheduled to operate as a symbol for visitors attending the Expo.
It has already received the prestigious “Laurel Prize,” an authoritative award in the Japanese railway industry.
Details
The front of the “400 Series” features a very innovative style, with headlights positioned at the four corners. Even from a distance, it is instantly recognizable as the 400 Series train.
According to designer Ken Okuyama, the futuristic design was inspired by a spaceship, and it was realized through Hitachi’s technology. The body is made of aluminum alloy, and a large front window has been adopted.
Unlike the typically crowded Japanese subways, the 400 Series features cross-seating, as well as Panasonic’s air purifiers and USB chargers.
Current status
The “400 Series” began operating in 2023, It runs on the Chuo Line, which crosses Osaka’s city center from east to west.
The Chuo Line is a fun subway route with entirely different scenery along the way, passing through areas like Osaka Port, downtown Osaka, Osaka Castle, and even into the mountains.
Among these, the Osaka Expo venue will be held on reclaimed land at Osaka Port.
